The SAP Signavio Process Transformation Suite built on AWS

Signavio is proudly looking back at more than a decade of providing the Process Transformation Suite as a native Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution to our customers. The security of our customers’ data, the reliability of the services and the delivery of innovative products has been and will always be our main concerns. To advance even further in these key areas, we have expanded our partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). With AWS our customers will benefit from the best-in-class hosting technologies and cloud services for mission-critical and enterprise grade solutions. Signavio is planning to host its current systems and services globally on AWS by 2020.

The development and operations teams at Signavio have already gained tremendous experience in delivering Signavio’s Process Transformation Suite for North American and APAC customers exclusively on AWS. An evaluation of several hosting providers has shown us that AWS is the perfect fit for our requirements in regards to technology, reliability, security, scalability, operational processes, and data centre locations. In the following, we will explain how our customers will benefit from the extended partnership between Signavio and AWS.

Data Security

Protecting and providing full control of customer data is one of AWS’s biggest strengths. The shared responsibility model clearly separates the responsibility of the security “of” the cloud (AWS) and the security “in” the cloud (Signavio). Signavio has full control of the location of data stored on discs1, the encryption of data-at-rest as well as data-in-transit, and the monitoring and auditing of traffic and changes within the infrastructure. AWS provides the capabilities to technically enforce these shared responsibilities. AWS has demonstrated the security of the cloud through compliance to 85 global and national standards and certifications, as well as full compliance to GDPR. Especially to be emphasized is the compliance with ISO 27018 - a certification explicitly addressing areas of concerns regarding the processing of personally identifiable information by public cloud providers. Cloud service providers like AWS are even approved for use in the highly regulated banking industry by the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority of Germany (BaFin)2.

Reliability

AWS has one of the largest global data centre infrastructures in the world. Each region consists of three availability zones. Each Availability Zone runs on its own physically distinct, independent infrastructure, and is engineered to be highly reliable. The Signavio SaaS solution will be distributed over all three availability zones of that region. Even in the unlikely event that two of three data centres are unavailable, on-demand available computing resources and automated scalability of the infrastructure reduces the impact for our users to a minimum.

Product Delivery

Partnering with AWS boosts the productivity of product delivery by several factors. Leveraging AWS’s managed services means scaling up the development capacity working on delivering the Process Transformation Suite from 150 people to tens of thousands. Backed by this workforce, Signavio’s engineers will have more time to focus on delivering innovative solutions for our customers to best manage and improve their business processes. Machine Learning and AI, blockchain, IoT, augmented reality, a satellite ground station - AWS provides ready-to-use services for all. Additionally, focusing on one infrastructure platform globally reduces implementation efforts, shortens quality assurance cycles, and thus speeds up product delivery.
